the price hike is due to increase in import duties.

well, if this hike is due to import duty then even the price of ps3 games will be affected.

it would be very stupid if ms does that.. their loss..

i doubt they would do that..they are already loosing out to ps3..

with the ps3 250 gb slim coming in.. they should be thinking of a reducing their prices + getting the elite for 20k..

The import duty would have to increase from the current 10% to around 50% to warrant a price rise of 1500 which is a 75% increase on the MRP (from 1999 to 3499). Also if you see this link http://www.cbec.gov.in/customs/cst-0910/chap-95.pdf it clearly states in section 9504 that the import duty on video games is still 10%. This leads me to believe that Redington is lying.

Also over at IVG sam has spoken to Milestone, E-xpress and WWC and they have said that there has been no increase in custom duties and they do not have any news about a increase in game prices.

All this is clearly showing that Redington is increasing the prices to compensate for the lack of sales on xbox 360 vs PS3 due to piracy easily available on the 360.
